GM reverse lights coming on when unlock is pressed, & after it’s locked.

This happened to me the other day outside of a Walgreen’s . I parked one spot over behind a Silverado. Like this.
It had its reverse lights on so I sat there waiting for it to backup, so that it wouldn’t hit my door as I got out. Then two people get out of the truck and walk into the store. I was dumbfounded, completely confused. Then I remembered a pet about these stupid courtesy lights on GM products. I get that the point is to light up the area around your car while you walk away from it, but it’s very confusing for other drivers in a parking lot. Then again maybe getting other drivers to slow down near your car isn’t such a bad thing, especially if you have kids.

What’s appalling isn’t so much that they’ve done this for over a decade, but that they STILL. continue to do this when folks complain about it, and when they could use license LEDs or other underbody spot-lights (again, LEDs are cheap and small, just saying...) to serve the same or better function without being confusing and awful. Yet another reason not to buy their junk.

Happened to me at Aldi yesterday. I was pretty sure the motor wasn’t running but gave a wide pass just in case.

interesting - never knew this. Why would GM even bother to t ake the extra effort to do that?

I hate that too. I only notice it at night, but the brake lights overpower the reverse lights and make it even more pointless.

I am also infuriated by this. “Oh I’ll wait, this guy is backing out of his parking spot” ... ... ... ... then they walk away.

I’m the last person you’ll find saying “there should be a law that ...” but I am amazed that it’s legal to use the reverse lights for something other than being in reverse
. I wouldn’t complain much if that changed.

Happened AGAIN to me just the other day. The ONE time I felt too lazy to back into a parking spot, too. I’m getting ready to leave, turn my head to back out, and the other guy across the aisle beats me to the punch by turning on his reverse lamps before I shift my truck into reverse. Fine, so he’s called dibs, I’ll wait.
And wait.
And wait.
...
He’s not backing out, is he?
